To help support live theatre in Los Angeles, Kent Photography offers a special rate for Equity LOA (formerly "Equity Waiver") theatre.

All Digital: More and more publications are working with digital photos rather than prints and this allows you to accommodate them and include added information. This is now the standard Theatre photo session. Film is never used unless requested in advance. We shoot digital and in color for $100. Proofs will usually be online within a couple of hours and responsible parties will be notified via email of the URL. Only those you give the URL to will be able to access the proofs, so it is private. Giving the address to cast and crew will allow them to order photos for themselves without having to wrest proofsheets away from the director or producer as in days passed.. I have the capability of shooting several hundred shots per session but, realistically, it will be very difficult to choose two or three shots for publication if you have more than 50 to inspect. It will also take longer for me to get proofs online. Since there are no negatives, wet-process prints are not available from this type of session.

EMAIL: It is becoming increasingly common for publications to request photos be emailed directly rather than be handed to reviewers on CDROM. Generally the show's PR representative will email a press release directly, but I can include it in the body of the email, if desired. Up to four photo files (500x750 dpi) can be attached to each email. (see note following) Each email will cost $1.50 and the invoice will be mailed or emailed sometime after opening night. Note: Each photo file is about 65kb in size. Some recipients may be limited in mailbox size or the number of attachments permitted. This usually applies to those who have commercial ISPs (aol.com and earthlink.net, for example). Those with private email systems (ie: latimes.com) probably won't have a problem.

CDROMs to be given to reviewers can be available within a few hours after you choose your final photos. Prints up to 8.5x11 are available. In the past, digital hardcopy prints were not generally considered suitable for submission to publications, but with the higher resolutions available in todays printers, they do seem to work okay in a pinch. You should be able to supply captions for the photos that can be included on the CDROM. Any other material (press release, etc) can be placed on the disk as well. They should be in .txt or .doc format. Paper documents can be converted for a charge of $5.00 per page. I am willing to scan in your flyer for free, if you have one and wish to include it. CDROMs with one photo and any other material you desire will cost $2 each and each additional photo will add $5.00 each per show. An invoice will usually be included with the CDROM delivery. Usually a CDROM with a copy of the website proofs will also be included.

We suggest posed shots. You can arrange your cast in order to maximize the effectiveness of the shot. We don't recommend shooting during a rehearsal or show, although we can. Usually the actors are too far apart and stage lighting is not optimal for photography. Call time for the actors should be one half hour before the photographer’s scheduled arrival time.

We can often provide digital prints of already-shot work on short notice.

Electronically enhanced images are also available. Computer time for simple enhancements, such as removal of distractive objects in the shot is not charged, however the prints have to be produced by computer and may not be useable for newspapers. Digital files are a better alternative. (see above)

Computer time on prints which we did not shoot, or for unusual manipulation is charged at the rate of $20.00 per hour in 1/4 hour increments.

Remember that computer-generated prints are made up of many little dots. Newspapers scan the prints and turn them into little dots again. Therefore, the results with computer prints may be problematic. Delivery via CDROM or email is recommended in most cases nowadays. We can produce very nice computer-generated prints in our own lab. This can result in a great savings in time if we still have the negative (we usually do unless the shoot is over 5 years old, and even many of those are still available) or if you can supply a print. (Note that prints from negatives are generally superior to prints from a scanned print.)

Digital prints are available for purchase by cast members at the same reduced Equity LOA prices. (see http://kentfoto.com/community.htm for prices)
